The founding of Department of computer Science and Technology can be tracked back over half a century ago in 1958. Nowadays It has developed into a worldwide known department with strong scientific research and education accomplishments in computer disciplines. It comprise of the institutes of high-performance computing research, computer network, computer software, human-computer interaction and media integration, and the state key laboratory of intelligent technology and systems. The department has established joint labs with IBM, Intel, Microsoft etc.
Bernard Marr, a Forbes senior writer, listed Tsinghua University's Master in Advanced Computing as one of the 10 best AI and data science master’s courses for 2021. He believes that China is a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence right now, and our program is one of the best-regarded in the country for AI and data science. Students explore and gain an in-depth understanding of topics including machine learning, big data and human/computer interaction from some of the most prominent experts in China, and work alongside major companies including Microsoft and IBM that are partnered with Tsinghua’s researchers.
Tsinghua University was established in 1911.The faculty greatly valued the interaction
between Chinese and Western cultures, the sciences and humanities, the ancient and modern. Since China
opened up to the world in 1978, Tsinghua University has developed at a breathtaking pace into a
comprehensive research university.
Currently, the university has 14 schools and 56 departments with faculties in science, engineering,
humanities, law, medicine, history, philosophy, economics, management, education and art. The
University has now over 25,900 students, including 13,100 undergraduates and 12,800 graduate students.
As one of China’s most renowned universities, Tsinghua has become an important institution for
fostering talent and scientific research.
Located on the site of "Qing Hua Yuan" in Haidian District, Beijing, Tsinghua University was founded in 1911, formerly known as a royal garden of Qing Dynasty. The campus is famous for its beautiful surroundings embraced by shady trees and time-honored architectural complexes with different features and styles, in which "Shui Mu Qing Hua" has a long history of reputation. It is listed as one of the 14 world's most beautiful college campuses by Forbes Magazine in 2010, the only one from Asia..
The Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST) of Tsinghua University can be tracked
back over half a century ago. In 1956, Tsinghua University was one of the first in China to
establish the computer science major. It was renamed the Department of Computer Engineering and
Science in 1979 and the Department of Computer Science and Technology in 1984. The department
started the master program in 1978 and the PhD program in 1981.
Our department continues its historical mission to build a first-class computer science
research institution and cultivate top-notch talents. We have conducted an impressive number
of scientific research studies in computer science and attained outstanding achievements.
We have trained more than 10,000 elites in this field. Furthermore, we have established
collaborative relationships with many world-class universities and research institutions.
Over the past years, the department has made significant contributions to our nation’s progress
in computer science and technology.
Computer science and technology has become the backbone of science and technology growth
and has penetrated every aspect of daily life. It has proven to be a field of great challenges
and opportunities. We are determined to take a leading position in expanding its boundaries,
through research and teaching of the highest quality. Our vision is that our graduates and
research will be at the forefront of the field, both within the nation and over the world.
As one of China’s leading institutions for teaching and research, our department has a strong commitment to basic research, applied research and scientific innovation. The students are visiting lab.
"...I really appreciated my experience in Knowledge Engineering Group, a laboratory of the department. I try to do my best to integrate myself with my Chinese collegues..."
"...I thought the teaching was excellent, the course structure was excellent, the teaching materials were excellent, and I looked forward to getting every new lab assignment, they were really fun! "
"...I thought the teaching was excellent, maybe one of the best teachers we have. The teacher was very good at understanding people's questions and giving easy to understand answers that were the answer to the question asked, and not to some related, but different, question..."
"...the teacher gave me the impression that he would make a very good supervisor, and push us to write lots of papers that would stand a good chance of getting published... "
"...Our student life is also animated thanks to the large variety of associations in the campus which organize all sorts of interesting events..."
"In this post, I'm going to talk about my experience of studying at Tsinghua University as an international student which I had the opportunity to attend from 2019 to 2021. I was enrolled in a post-graduate full-time program in Computer Science with a focus on Machine Learning and Deep Learning."

I am ISINGIZWE Didier Frank (迪迪尔), 27 years old, from Kigali/Rwanda. I come from a family of one little brother and a little sister with our mother. Since I was young I was so passionate about computers and curious to try out new technologies. I used to read many stories about how China’s tech industry is developing super-fast due to the extent Chinese people embrace new technologies, to be more specific in the implementation aspect and I got attracted by the idea of trying out new technologies and implementing them in real life, especially in the field of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
My life in China started at the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) in 2015, where I got admitted as an undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science and Technology, I had many expectations about China in general but specifically Beijing Institute in Technology. My university experiences were amazing. I have learned and experienced so many new things like Speaking Chinese, meeting people from different backgrounds, visiting well-known touristic places like the great wall, Sports activities, and other interesting cultural activities. BIT was a very welcoming place, and from the first day, I felt at home.
During my study at BIT, I successfully developed & launched my video Game “RACESCAPE” with the help of everything BIT offers to a Computer Science student, I won 16th place among 3k Codingamers all over the world at the CODINGAME Programming contest. BIT helped me discover my talents by providing different activities that promote talents among Students.
While at BIT, I have been awarded a DISTINGUISHED STUDENT AWARD in the academic year 2015-2016, an EXCELLENT STUDENT AWARD in the academic year of 2016-2017, won the first prize of the Beijing Government Scholarship and I got different opportunities of working with different companies in Beijing in the field of Natural Language processing specifically building Chatbots.
After my study at BIT, I decided to apply to Tsinghua University for my master’s degree in Computer Science because it is among high ranked universities in the world. My university experiences highly contributed a lot to my deep understanding of Artificial Intelligence & Network Security, I received great & professional guidance from Professor Jun Li & Professor Dongsheng Wang in the Network Security research field and I had amazing experiences doing research in the Network Security Lab of Tsinghua University where I worked on many types of research and had a great one-year internship experience working as a network security researcher at NSFOCUS Inc. in Beijing.
During my study at Tsinghua University, I have chosen many classes to maximize my 2 years Master's program experiences and it was a little bit challenging at first, however, I managed to pass them all on time and I was able to get my research paper to be accepted for publication in the international conference IEEE-ICCT21.
While I was in my last year of my master's at THU working on my thesis and research, Changhong company approached me for a potential job offer, and I managed to pass all 3+ stages of the interview and came to the conclusion that it will be my next adventure, so, I am currently working full time as a Research Engineer (AI security department) in Changhong Information Security Laboratory, Chengdu, Sichuan.
Time has been flying by so fast; it's hard to believe that I have been in China for 7 years already. Life in China has been a great experience that I plan ta make the most out of.
