The founding of Department of computer Science and Technology can be tracked back over half a century ago in 1958. Nowadays It has developed into a worldwide known department with strong scientific research and education accomplishments in computer disciplines. It comprise of the institutes of high-performance computing research, computer network, computer software, human-computer interaction and media integration, and the state key laboratory of intelligent technology and systems. The department has established joint labs with IBM, Intel, Microsoft etc.

Bernard Marr, a Forbes senior writer, listed Tsinghua University's Master in Advanced Computing as one of the 10 best AI and data science master’s courses for 2021. He believes that China is a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence right now, and our program is one of the best-regarded in the country for AI and data science. The Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST) of Tsinghua University can be tracked back over half a century ago. In 1956, Tsinghua University was one of the first in China to establish the computer science major. It was renamed the Department of Computer Engineering and Science in 1979 and the Department of Computer Science and Technology in 1984. The department started the master program in 1978 and the PhD program in 1981.

Our department continues its historical mission to build a first-class computer science research institution and cultivate top-notch talents. We have conducted an impressive number of scientific research studies in computer science and attained outstanding achievements. We have trained more than 10,000 elites in this field. Furthermore, we have established collaborative relationships with many world-class universities and research institutions.
